Our History
  • Paneltex is established

In June, Paneltex is established in a 5000 sq. ft. factory in Hull, a strategic move following the Food Safety Act of 1990. The mission is to craft insulated panels and portable cold stores tailored to a major global rental company - a pivotal relationship that endures to this day.

  • Paneltex expands

Paneltex strategically expands with a 60,000 sq. ft. assembly factory on-site. Simultaneously, Paneltex launches its range of refrigerated trucks, a testament to advancing transportation and manufacturing standards.

  • Range expansion

Paneltex strengthens its portfolio with the acquisition of CSC (Specialised Vehicles) Ltd. This move follows the establishment of Percheron Trucks & Trailers Ltd in 1993, alongside the acquisition of Wilsdon & Co., a venerable vehicle body builder, and APC, a plastics mouldings company in Hull, in 1994.

  • Van Conversions

Paneltex unveils its latest innovation - a range of temperature-controlled panel van conversions. Precision-engineered for optimal efficiency, these conversions redefine temperature-controlled logistics, going on to win multiple industry awards for many years to come.

  • Grocery Delivery

Paneltex displays an innovative forward-looking concept at the Commercial Vehicle Show by showcasing a ground-breaking prototype - a multi-temperature ground-loading module. This draws the attention of a burgeoning internet shopping grocery home delivery company, sparking the beginning of a lasting customer relationship.

  • Internet Shopping

As internet shopping grows in the UK grocery sector, Paneltex firmly establishes itself as the premier manufacturer of vehicle bodywork tailored for this application. Paneltex leads the 3.5T market in temperature-controlled bodybuilding by supplying the very grocery retail companies that shape the contours of this evolving business model.

  • Further growth

Paneltex adds to its arsenal with the strategic acquisition of Somers Refrigeration in Norfolk, enhancing its capabilities in the realm of panel van conversions. Paneltex also acquires Agenda Specialist Vehicles in Hampshire, which is transformed into the esteemed Paneltex Service Division.

  • Trailer manufacturing

Paneltex streamlines its operations with the acquisition of Martrans Trailers in Lincolnshire. This involves relocating trailer chassis manufacturing (previously executed at a Paneltex site in Poland since 2001) closer to home.

  • TCS&D Awards

Paneltex's Managing Director, Chris Berridge, receives the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award at the TCS&D Awards Dinner. Meanwhile, Paneltex Somers Conversions clinch the coveted Refrigerated Panel Van of the Year trophy, a triumph repeated for five successive years.

  • OEM relationships

Paneltex solidifies its stellar relationships with OEMs by achieving the newly created status of a Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier. This accolade joins the ranks of its existing automotive accreditations, including the Mercedes Qualified Partner, VW Integrated Partner, and Citroen Ready-To-Run Programmes.

  • Body Kit Exports

Paneltex launches a comprehensive range of grocery home delivery vehicle body kits. Engineered for excellence, these kits are a global export, destined to make an impact in Europe, North America, and beyond.

  • Engineering Acquisitions

Paneltex elevates its engineering prowess with the strategic acquisitions of Phoenix Laser Cutting and Aztec Powder Coating, culminating in the birth of Paneltex Engineering Services.
